Preliminary Study on Developing Strength of Various Film Development Chemicals for Photographic Films

Resumen

In the processing of photographic films, the photographic developer is chemical that convert the latent image to a visible image. Developing agents achieve this conversion by reducing the silver halides into silver metal. The special feature of photography is that the developer only acts on those particles of silver halides that have been exposed to light. The aim of this study is to compare the results on developing strength of C-41 type (color film developer) over repeated used, chemical?s temperature and shelf life. Sample images were examined for shift in Exposure Value (EV), color shift and grain quality prior to statistical analysis. Result shows decreasing development strength of C41 developer when independently tested over four months of storage period, six repeated development cycles and cooler development temperature. These were indicated through higher correction in EV across the range of variables in study. Meanwhile, color shift and grain quality of samples were found to be dependent on multiple variables such as initial intensity of exposure levels and developer?s strength which is dependent on variables discussed
