Resumen

As sustainable transport systems need to secure long-term benefits of users, it is useful to compare the social benefits of land-use transport development between cities at different development stages based on different values of local residents. In Asian developing megacities, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) has recently been developed to calm serious traffic congestion at an early development stage, facing rapid motorisation. On the other hand, large cities in Japan have experienced long-term MRT development at a late development stage, but they need improvement of the system, facing ageing society. Both cities are required to have new quality of land-use transport systems in the different contexts of value changes of local residents. This study aims to compare Quality of Life (QOL) for residential location in station areas between Bangkok in Thailand and Nagoya in Japan. The result clarifies their difference in perceived quality of transit-oriented development with the QOL index that composes indicators of life elements and values in preference for them.
