Abstract. The Mesozoic and Cenozoic volcanic rocks of central Chile, except recent ones, have been affected by episodes of regional alteration. The alteration, which is characterized by low-grade metastable mineral associations, comprises the following diagenetic to metamorphic facies: zeolite (mordenite, laumonlite and wairakite subfacies), prehnite-pumpellyite, pumpellyite-actinolite and greenschist.
