Hotel sector and internet use in Chile: an exploratory study

Resumen

Undoubtedly the use of the Internet offers important benefits for the hotel industry as well as a decision-making tool for tourists in their trips. Consequently, the aim of this study is to explore the virtual commercial communication of the hotel industry in Chile, analyzing its main digital activities. Based on an exploratory study with a documentary approach, an applied and field research was developed. The study considered working with Chilean accommodation businesses samples. The results showed important weaknesses in using Web sites by hoteliers, generating an opportunity to qualitatively correct the digital management, increase the coverage and improve the profits of their businesses.
