Resumen

This article develops a historical review of the agreements reached at the Bretton Woods Conference, where institutions were founded and rules established with the objective to regulate the international monetary and financial order. This review was prepared to explain how these institutions are mainly responsible for the economic chaos in which the world is currently stalled, and to understand although the purpose of these institutions is to seek economic development at all costs, why they support the concept of 'sustainable development'. The article concludes that this concept has been used as a tool to allow the expansion of neoliberal policies. Keywords: Neoliberalism, Sustainable Development, Globalization, Ideology,
