Resumen
This study focuses on the discussion about the future of Caleta Jaime between 1915 and 1916, when there were built Valparaíso Puerto Barón train station. The main objectives are to show the actors that supported fishermen?s demands and analyze their speeches, explain the performance of reluctant authorities to keep the cove on its original site, base why fishermen suffered unavoidable enclosure and show social control like an inherent aspect to Chilean coast in mid 1910s. Our primary source is the journal El Mercurio de Valparaíso, which made an explicit campaign in favor of Jaime fishermen?s interest. The main idea is that some projects were approved to enclose and extinguish Caleta Jaime, despite releases of El Mercurio and public defense made by some state authorities and parliamentarians.
