From dictatorship to democracy. Where we journey in Chile Between 1970 and 2017?

Jorge Pinto Rodríguez

Resumen

In this article we discuss the so-called transition from the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet to democracy in Chile, after the victory of the NO in 1988 and the triumph of Patricio Aylwin in 1990. Although it is a subject at length approached by social scientists in the last three decades, we have tried to prove that in the second half of the 20th century occurred in our country a single transition: from a democracy to a dictatorship that installed the neo-liberal model that still reigns in our country. In this opportunity we will refer to five factors that slowed down the transition expected in the 90s: the weight of the past, the changes that have occurred in Chile in recent decades, the limitations of democracy and little modernization of the State, those enclaves of the dictatorship and the international stage.
