GPS SYSTEMS AS AN ITEM OF TELEMATICS IN TRANSPORTATION

Resumen

International transport faces new challenges due to the progressive development of the world economy. The growing demand for transport leads to a situation where it becomes necessary to use modern systems allowing efficient traffic management and supporting the functioning of the entire transport system. Currently, more than 80% of transport needs satisfactions is using road transport. The changes taking place in the global market need to generate the most efficient use of this mode of transport through the creation of modern transportation systems, modernization of transport and improving the operation of road infrastructure. A chance to maintain the carriers on the European market are modern telematics and informatics. The use of information systems through using them e.g. to monitorcrossings, create a system to inform drivers about any dangers, weather conditions, possible ways itinerant allows for more efficient management of urban transport, minimizing costs and ensuring a better flow of information, which leads to the improvement of road safety increase driver comfort and significantly shorten the driving time. The aim of this article is to present the significance and essence of transport telematics and to compare selected systems for monitoring and navigation fleet.
