Determination of the percentage of humidity, soluble and insoluble in water of the fiber of Carludovica Palmata (toquilla thatch)

Resumen

This paper presents the determination of moisture and water solubles and insolubles of Carludovica Palmata (paja toquilla) fiber. To perform these tests using ASTM E871-82, ASTM D1110-84 and ASTM D1107-96 standars. In order to determine its use pontencial as reinforcement in composite materials and the influence on the mechanical strength. The moisture content of analyzed fiber corresponds to 5,33 % by weight. The percentage of soluble and insoluble components in water is 4,6 % and 21,874 %, respectively.
