Resumen
O artigo apresenta diálogos teóricos e empíricos sobre família e transversalidades de gênero e de geração, a partir de resultados de pesquisa em bairro popular de Belém-PA. Mostra que as transformações sociais das últimas décadas revelam a composição de novos arranjos familiares no contexto urbano brasileiro, e que várias gerações coabitam o espaço domiciliar nos grupos domésticos extensos, com realce para o lugar das avós na transmissão de bens materiais e de legados, através das práticas de cuidado com netos e netas, estabelecendo trocas de ordem material, afetiva e simbólica, pautadas em obrigações morais entre a parentela e a rede social.Palavras-chave: Família, gênero, geração, legados.GENDER, GENERATIONS AND THE ROLE OF GRANDPARENTS. Study with families in a popular neighborhood in BelémAbstract: This article presents theoretical and empirical debates regarding families and transversalities considering gender and generations. This article is based on a research held in a popular neighborhood in Belém in the State of Pará. The social transformations of recent decades reveal the composition of family arrangements in the context of Brazilian cities. Thus, several generations live together in the household space as extended families. Special attention should be given to the role of grandparents within the families regarding the provision, transmission of material goods and the caring of grandchildren. On the basis of family relations, sharing material goods as well as caring are considered symbolic practices within the context of social obligations of parents and social networks.Keywords: Family, gender, generation, legacy.
