Resumen
The aim of this research was to contribute to recycling of plastics obtained from urban solid waste. Different kinds of plastic were separated, ground, washed, dried and later molded by extrusion at 180oC, followed by the injection molding process at 180, 190 and 200oC. The plastics evaluated were PP, PS, PEAD and a mixture of non-identified plastics (PEBD, PEAD, PP and PS) regarding their density, purity, mechanical and thermomechanical properties (MFI). Results showed good performance in mechanical properties, indicating potential application to the manufacture of low requirement parts. The mixture of plastics resulted in a material with properties similar to PEAD, with higher flexural resistance in advantage. Injection temperature (at 180 to 190oC) had no significant influence on mechanical properties.
