Resumen

The acceptability and consumption of yam varieties depend on the quality components. Rapid measurement of these components is crucial in yam breeding program and calls for the rapid techniques for yam quality determination. The NIRS application will be beneficial for detecting tuber quality attributes in the yam crop due to its rapid, cost-effective, and non-destructive features. Sample preparation is a prerequisite for the prediction of quality traits by NIRS and sometimes is a big challenge when large populations of breeding materials are to be evaluated. Thus, this study evaluated the effects of different sampling methods on the prediction performances of NIRS in determining selected quality characteristics of different fresh yam species.
