Exploratory Factor Analysis on Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES): Latest food insecurity measurement tool by FAO

t b a

Resumen

Food insecurity is a known health-related problem worldwide. Recently, FAO releases the latest measurement scale to gauge experiences of food insecurity named as Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES), which was designed to have cross-cultural equivalence and validity. We aimed to translate and validate FIES by using exploratory factorial analysis (EFA) and to see its reliability to implement it in Malaysia. This cross-sectional study was conducted among a community in Felda Bukit Cherakah, Puncak Alam Selangor (n=124). Factor analysis FIES items established two underlying structures, while the Cronbach alpha coefficient indicates acceptable internal consistency. FIES is valid and reliable to be used to measure food insecurity situation among our population.
