COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR USE IN MEASUREMENT OF GROUND VIBRATION CAUSED BY TRAFFIC

Marcin Honkisz

Resumen

This article describes comparative analysis of possible available hardware solutions for use in detection of ground vibration. Analysis will help to choose the most advantageous technology for detection of ground vibration caused by traffic. That system allows detection of passing vehicles ? primarily determination of their number. The article describes comparison of two platforms, radically different from the point of view of costs. One of the solutions considered inclinometer dedicated to the mobile industry with a very high grade of accuracy and repeatability. It?s connecting via the CAN bus with a PLC integrated with the HMI operating panel. This solution has been confronted with low-cost system. Measurement was realized using a simple 3-axis accelerometer in the form of undeveloped MEMS chip with an analog output. This detector was connected with the popular Arduino microcomputer. The comparison showed  that both platforms are able to detect vibration. A tenfold difference doesn?t exclude platform based on the accelerometer from further research atthis moment.
